It is with great sadness that I report that LeRoi Moore, saxophonist and founding member of the Dave Matthews Band, passed away yesterday at the age 46. The musician had sustained injuries (a punctured lung and broken ribs, among other things) from an ATV accident that occurred on June 30th in his hometown of Charlottesville, VA. The details are still a bit hazy, but Moore apparently died unexpectedly from complications from said injuries. This is huge blow to the music world. Moore was a crucial member of one of the more influential bands of the past couple of decades. I've seen DMB close to 20 times (no other band comes close to even rivaling this number), and cannot even fathom the band ever being the same without him. On June 27th, I was even lucky enough to see Moore play one of his last shows with the band in Hershey, PA.Being the professionals they are, the Dave Matthews Band went on with a show that they had scheduled last night at the Staples Center in LA. Matthews and crew dedicated the show to Moore, reflecting on the memories they had with their "brother". Matthews even went so far as saying, "There's no place I'd rather be than here with you guys right now." What a class act.
This is truly a sad day...
